Sectoral Variation in GVC Integration: Asia

UNIDO sponsored research to understand value chain dynamics in the apparel and electronics industries globally and in Asia (China, India, and Vietnam). I prepared seven background papers for the project on the global electronics value chain, apparel value chain, and country-specific papers for China, India, and Vietnam in each industry. These were the basis for Chapter 5 on Sectoral Variation in GVC Integration and Outcomes (p. 49-70) in Global Value Chains and Industrial Development: Lessons from China, South-East Asia and South Asia. Analysis in China included micro-data analysis of industrial and customs time-series data and interviews in Shenzhen and Beijing.
