Automation Technologies and the Future of the Apparel GVC
We conducted interviews with firm and geographic account managers within Maersk to understand how the organization operates in various product offerings. Our analysis reviewed global shipping data from Seabury and internal information provided by the client. The 45-page report included a short apparel GVC introduction on lead firms and global production (apparel and textiles). This was followed by industry dynamics: changes in consumer preferences, emergence of internet retail and e-commerce sales channels, market shifts toward Asia, regulatory environment, and automation technology. The next section looked at potential disruptive technologies, including automation/hardware and supply chain software. The final section provided potential outcomes and drivers of change in 5 to 15 years. I traveled to Denmark to give final presentations to the client on the apparel GVC and country trends as well as a presentation on automation technologies in the industry.
