Introduction to GVCs

This four-day workshop included 31 participants, and was held February 17-20, 2019, in Jeddah, KSA. The workshop introduced the concept of GVC analysis and how it is used as a tool to understand how global industries operate and how practitioners can use that information when developing strategies to enter or improve countries’ competitiveness in these chains at the regional and global levels. The workshops drew on GVCC’s experiences to provide case studies of how GVC-focused research has helped other countries. Sessions included:

• Day 1: GVCs & Development and GVC Theoretical Framework & Research Steps
• Day 2: Agriculture GVCs and GVCs and Construction
• Day 3: Infrastructure GVCs, the Tourism GVC, and the Apparel GVC
• Day 4: GVC Entry & Upgrading
